Stained Glass Chair

Materials: OSB, Resin, Colorant, Nuts & Bolts

Co-Creator: Alea Oakman

The Challenge: Create a chair using a one-third sheet of Oriented Strand Board (OSB) that could pack into a 1” thick box, be easily assembled by users, and support an average person’s weight.

We modeled the design in AutoCAD® and prototyped using laser-cut hardboard and 5-minute cure epoxy resin. The final chair was cut with a Waterjet Cutting Machine.

I designed the AutoCAD file. I gave the chair structural stability by creating continuous pieces for the sides of the chair, connecting the sides together with planks, and securing the planks with bolted pieces to prevent lateral movement.

The gaps in the planks were filled with resin.
